The Game UN:Me: A Psychological Horror Merging Silent Hill and Among Us Gameplay

The latest Day of the Devs digital showcase revealed a number of intriguing future games, but one in particular has captured the imagination: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player adventure appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill title with the paranoid deduction heart of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a girl harboring multiple human souls inside her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the mind," explains producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Shattered Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of teenage years. Inside her reside four separate souls, all possessing unique fears and motivations. These souls can take over spontaneously, releasing their innermost terrors upon her without warning.

Based on revealed gameplay, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy medical facility, while additional clips depict the main character exploring a abandoned chapel.

A World of Personal Horror

"What are you fearful of? What makes you uncomfortable?" asks creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. People in power. Things that seem trivial to others can trigger a deep instinct inside us. This game delves into that idea — anxieties that are specific to every individual."

The central mechanic revolves around managing the persona that emerges at any given moment. However, these identities will change against your will during gameplay. During exploration, every persona's fears become amplified and attack the girl in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player encounters.

Unsettling Aesthetics and a Deadly Decision

Initially, UN:Me shares noticeable aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The setting is filled with orderlies who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad grins. Figures in the waiting room have enormous flowers where their necks should be. Flowers are a recurring theme, juxtaposing natural beauty with supernatural dread.

Yet, UN:Me presents a unique twist. Players are tasked with deducing which of the four souls inhabiting the heroine is the "true" one. "All four personas asserts that the body is rightfully them," notes a developer. "During the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

After a player believes a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, since each soul can deceive or hide the truth, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.

"Maybe you've already destroyed the true [soul] by your own actions," the narration suggests. "The final entity remaining could be a fraud. Either way, your decisions are irreversible."

UN:Me currently lacks a confirmed release date, but it is can be wishlist on platforms.
