Bullish Wilfried Nancy shows no fear of the sack but Celtic fans unleash anger after derby defeat.

The Celtic boss declared he had no concerns about the sack, asserting, “The team is very near to changing our fortunes,” despite edging perilously close to being fired with a heavy loss to Rangers.

Another Meltdown Results in Derby Defeat

The home side were ahead Rangers at half-time but a disastrous second period allowed Danny Röhl’s team to pull level on points with the current Scottish Premiership champions. Nancy, who was brought in in December, has now overseen six defeats in his first eight games.

“We are together with the board,” stated the manager.

Asked directly about the speculation, the 48-year-old responded: “I don’t think about it. My focus is on finding ways to aid my players to be good on details.

Protest On Display

Hundreds of supporters voiced their fury – directed at the dugout and directors – in their hundreds at Parkhead. Club directors are reportedly likely to bring back the former boss, who enjoyed a successful temporary stint previously, if the Frenchman were sacked.

“The outcomes [that leads to pressure]. So this is the situation for the moment. However when I say this is the reality, that is not a sign that I am a defeatist guy. Not at all. The message is we are on the cusp, really, really close to change the narrative.”

Focus on the Details

He remains focused on the fact his team play well for a half at a time. For instance, were it not for poor finishing they could have been better than 1-0 up. “The performance had merit other than the fact that we haven’t scored a second goal,” he said. “I acknowledge that we lost, but I have also to be balanced.

“The performance we had at stages was really, really, really high. This is the reality. I could not say that if it was untrue. Therefore, in terms of results, I mentioned it's a repeating pattern. For that reason I said that we are really close to a shift in fortunes. But for the moment: details, details, details.”

“I saw a lot of encouraging signs that we did, as was the case today. However is performing for 90 minutes. My message would be different the same. That’s why I am convinced the team can to get back on track.”

Röhl’s Cautious Response

Danny Röhl played down talk of a championship push even after what felt like a landmark win. “We take it game by game, then we can develop something here,” he said. “The belief in the team is outstanding.”
